Dr. Floyd Woods was the founding father of the first optometric co-management center in the Midwest and presently serves as the Administrative Director emeritus for Midwest Eye Professionals. In addition, Dr. Woods was the secretary of the Illinois Optometric Examining committee, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council of the State of Illinois, served as vice president of the Illinois Optometric Association from 1982-1988, and was president of the association from 1998-90. He is past Lt. Gov. of Kiwanis International, a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Oak Lawn, a past member of the Board of Education, Oak Lawn Hometown Public School District No. 123, and a former member of the joint Statewide Interprofessional Advisory Committee on Children’s Vision to the State Supt. Of Public Instructions.
Currently, Dr. Woods serves as vice president of the Southside Crippled Children’s Aid, president of Hospitalized War Veterans, is a member of the advisory board of the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Hospital, and is currently treasurer of School District 123 Educational Foundation. Dr. Woods was named “Optometrist of the Year” by his colleagues of the Illinois Optometric Association for 1994.
Dr. Woods has served as a vision consultant to several private schools and public school districts. He has been a guest lecturer at Loyola University, DePaul University, Trinity Christian College, and has been a participant in numerous teacher workshops. Dr. Woods has practiced in Oak Lawn for more than 40 years, and recently celebrated his 50th year in practice.
