Dr. Opitz received his undergraduate degree from Loyola University and proceeded to earn his doctorate of optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1996.
Following graduation, he completed a hospital based, ocular disease residency at the Hampton Virginia Veteran Administration Hospital 1996-1997. In 1997, Dr. Opitz, in conjunction with Floyd Woods, O.D. and Ronald Carr, O.D. opened The Midwest Eye Professionals, which is an optometric co-management center. Here he provides medical and surgical consultations for patients in Retina, Glaucoma, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Cataracts, Oculo-Plastics, External Eye Disease, and Laser Vision Correction.
Additionally, Dr. Opitz is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Optometry of the Illinois College of Optometry. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, The Illinois Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Opitz has lectured nationally for various Continuing Education programs in ocular pathology and Laser Vision Correction (LVC), and is a columnist for the Journal of the Illinois Optometric Association.
